Some operators may not be aware of the Road Train Prime Mover Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice or not understand that it may benefit them.

The notice was released in April 2022 and provides mass and dimension exemptions when operating eligible combinations.The Notice provides 2 key access improvements for road train registered prime movers (MC3 and MC4) and eligible combinations:

• Steer axle mass benefits allow operation at road train steer mass limit when operating in specific combinations (up to 7.1 tonnes)
• Longer total combination lengths, including the 20m prime mover and semitrailer, 27m B-double, and 26m prime mover semitrailer and unladen converter dolly.

Note: The Notice's length exemption must be due to the road train prime mover length and is subject to conditions of operation and approved network conditions.
